Grandfather Slava visits Eugene's grave and, after thinking about it, takes his remains home to revive him. Olga asks Jean to get her out of the cage in which she was locked. On the way to Moscow to visit Ivan, Anna witnesses a strange accident and learns that her lover, who had recently been summoned to Smolensk for an investigation, became the victim of the accident.

Grandfather Slava tells Anna and Jean how he realized Mila's true identity. Usachev understands less and less what is happening to Anna. Olga falls asleep for the first time in 100 years.
