Beissl's dentist, the passionate (big game) hunter Dr. Björn Heckerl, is found dead in the basement of his villa, bound and gagged, by his long-time girlfriend Gabriele. At first glance, nothing seems to be missing from the house, which presents investigators with a major mystery. Gabriele, who runs a restaurant, has a rock-solid alibi. And Heckerl's daughter Michaela can also prove through posts on social media that she was not at home at the time of death.

However, an older post by Michaela leads investigators to discover that something is missing from the house: the head of the rhinoceros Jambo, whose horn fetches high prices on the black market. The post is followed by a storm of criticism against the hunter, with forest ranger Helga Lohberger, whose son Sven still lives with her, standing out in particular. Did she want to punish Heckerl for his hunting? Or are international gangs specializing in such burglaries behind it?

The detectives are dealing with an unusual case: the husband of successful real estate agent Birgit Leibold reports his wife as kidnapped. Detective Beissl is skeptical, wondering whether Klaus Leibold himself might be involved—especially when it turns out that the agent's facade is more appearance than reality: Birgit Leibold is broke! Is the husband now trying to get back on his feet financially by staging a fake kidnapping?

The unusual ransom sum leads the detectives' investigations into the real estate world. A secret deal between the agent and her best friend, Veronika Berger, presents the detectives with a mystery. But then the agent's former employee, Quirin Steiner, becomes the focus of the investigation: a bitter dispute rages between him and Birgit over commissions and reputation.
