An insurance investigator seeks to locate an armored vehicle transporting gold bars that vanished along a remote Texas highway.

The Phoenix, a multi-million-dollar prototype of a ground-breaking new car, mysteriously vanishes from a nonstop train heading to Boston - along with the flatbed car carrying it. Banacek is brought in to track down the missing vehicle before a massive insurance pay out becomes necessary.
