Tom is named a commander of a regiment of citizen soldiers in the aftermath of an attack by aliens, whose purpose remains a mystery. Yet Tom's primary objective is to protect his three sons, one of whom is taken captive by the otherworldly invaders.

A doctor (Steven Weber) who shares a history with Tom arrives at camp, and he may hold the key to saving the kids who've been abducted by aliens. Meanwhile, the ragtag crew has nightmarish encounters with skitters and mechs.
