A Sioux Indian Chief hires Paladin to bring home the body of his son, scheduled for execution by the Army.

Paladin rides through the mountains with four men, and they find a seemingly unconscious man stranded on a ledge that they can't reach without endangering their lives... and don't know if he's alive or dead.
