Dr. Alan Moody, who who once saved Paladin's life, calls in the favor, asking Paladin to save the son of a woman that Moody loved but who married another man.

A prosecuting attorney, Adams, tries to hire Paladin to kill the man who gunned down his brother. When Paladin refuses, Adam's second choice tries and is killed. Adams tries to try the killer in a kangaroo court, and Paladin insists on defending the man.
