Peter Coyote narrates the story of the survivors of Oceanic flight 815. The leader of the tail-end survivors, Ana Lucia, is forced to get her group inland to escape the ruthless 'others'. Meanwhile, the fuselage survivors have to deal with heavily pregnant woman, a mysterious stranger and the discovery of a hatch in the jungle.

The second season continues the stories of a group of over forty people who have been stranded on a remote island in the south Pacific, after their airplane crashed forty-four days prior to the beginning of the season. A 1970s scientific Dharma Initiative research station which the survivors discovered on the island and refer to as "the hatch" is the main mystery of this season.
