A half million dollars in jewelry is hijacked from Mac while he is escorting it to the opening of a fashion show. He and Pete find that there is more than simple robbery involved as a motive for the crime.

Pete's insistence on helping out a former buddy almost leads to the disillusionment of the investigative team of MacBride and Ryan, and almost costs Pete his life.
