Six months after undertaking the race of a lifetime, the five intrepid pairs meet for the first time since returning home in this reunion episode.
After racing nearly 13,000 kilometres over seven weeks through China, Nepal and India, the four teams are about to embark on the final leg of the race.
In the penultimate episode, the finish line is in sight for the four remaining teams, who need to reach the seventh checkpoint - Panaji, the tiny capital of India's smallest state, Goa.
With over two-thirds of the race completed and almost 10,000km travelled, four teams have successfully made it to the fifth checkpoint, McLeod Ganj.
After journeying through China and Nepal, the teams have reached northern India. Ahead of them is a journey of 1,500km north west of Varanasi to the fifth checkpoint, McLeod Ganj.
The teams discover they are headed to Varanasi, one of the world's oldest living cities - and with one pair almost 24 hours in front, the others are desperate to close the gap. The journey takes the competitors through three countries - China, Nepal and India - and with the mighty Himalayas in their way, they are required to fly to Kathmandu to continue the race.
In the third leg, the five pairs are challenged to race from the island checkpoint of Sanya to the mysterious Shangri-La, a city sitting on the edge of the Tibetan plateau towards the foothills of the Himalayas. As race leaders Elizabeth and Letitia check out, ex-married couple Yin and Gaz have only just made it in, having been stuck on the mainland unable to cross. With an almighty 44-hour gap between first and last place, Yin and Gaz know they have a mountain to climb to remain in the race, but are determined to come out for leg three fighting
The teams set out on their journey to the second checkpoint in Sanya, one of China's most southerly cities, located on Hainan Island. To get there, the teams must choose between city-hopping down the coast of the East China Sea or venturing inland on a more rural route that takes in some of China's most impressive landscapes but it's a race against time as a fast-approaching typhoon threatens to stop all ferries to the island.
Five intrepid duos are tasked with undertaking the trip of a lifetime, racing over 14,000km across the world's largest continent, Asia, taking in three of its nations – China, Nepal and India. Teams begin the race at Huanghuacheng Reservoir Dam, Beijing, China and race to the first checkpoint at Huangling Shaiqiu Hotel, Jiangxi, China.
Five teams of intrepid Brits battle it out in a breathtaking 15,000-kilometre race across eastern Asia through some of the world's most populous regions and some of its most unexplored.
The teams will race from northernmost Japan, crossing six seas and eight borders, skirting the path of the volcanic ring of fire – the most geologically unstable region on the planet – to reach the finish line in Lombok, an idyllic Indonesian island paradise.
Five pairs of intrepid travellers will race across an entire continent. Ocean to ocean. Starting out at the very edge of the Pacific in Vancouver - the teams will travel over 16,000 kilometres across six time zones all at ground level to the finish line perched on the rugged Atlantic coast, North America's most easterly city - St John's Newfoundland.
