It was the worst day for the stock market since 2020 as investors absorbed the potential impact of an escalating trade war. NBC News' Christine Romans reports on how the Trump administration is defending its efforts to remake the global economy. President Trump said that his sweeping tariffs on imports are designed to boost American companies that make products in the U.S. But for many popular brands that import their products from overseas, prices could rise. NBC News' Brian Cheung reports. Police say a high school student in Texas fatally stabbed another student, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, in the heart at a school track meet. Metcalf's twin brother reportedly held the teen as he died. NBC News' Priscilla Thompson has the latest on the investigation. For parents, having a child be admitted to the hospital can make a stressful situation even worse. In many cases, kids need extra care, but some of it can be done at home. Nearly three dozen reported tornadoes left widespread damage in a region already battered by storms. Officials say the severe weather threat isn't over yet as multiple counties in Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee are at risk for severe flooding. NBC News' Kathy Park reports from the storm zone. The Pentagon's inspector general will investigate whether Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used the encrypted commercial app Signal to discuss classified information about a military strike in Yemen. Hegseth and other administration officials have denied any classified information was mentioned. NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports. In North Carolina, Atrium Health expanded its Hospital Home program to include pediatrics. They say it doesn't cost any extra, and the results are better. NBC News' Anne Thompson has the story. The people who rescued and helped heal Lenny the loggerhead turtle believe he was attacked by a shark that left him with a badly damaged flipper. But after some much needed time at The Turtle Hospital, it was all smiles as Lenny was brought back to the water. NBC News' George Solis reports from the reef.

Tomorrow it's 25% on auto imports, later this week is the 10% tariff on nearly all imports, and then next week, the President's new "reciprocal tariffs" at substantially higher rates on select nations begin. NBC News' Christine Romans reports on how markets are reacting. President Trump announced ten percent tariffs on all imports, along with new reciprocal tariffs that will charge half the tax on foreign goods that dozens of countries are charging on American products. The President called it a "liberation day" that will bring back American manufacturing, but critics say it could raise prices. NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports. Val Kilmer, the wide-ranging actor who earned critical praise, has died at 65. As a leading man in roles such as Iceman in "Top Gun" and Jim Morrison in the 1991 Oliver Stone film "The Doors," Kilmber could be charismatic but unpredictable. President Trump discussed Elon Musk transitioning back to the private sector at a Cabinet meeting last month, according to a senior White House official. President Trump has publicly said Musk will leave soon and praised his performance cutting government spending. NBC News' Ryan Nobles reports. Saturday is meant to be the deadline for TikTok parent company Bytedance to sell the platform to a non-Chinese buyer or face its possible ban in the United States. According to a source familiar with the White House led discussions about a deal, Amazon made a late bid to buy TikTok. NBC News' Savannah Sellers has the latest reaction. A powerful spring storm system is threatening millions with dangerous weather from northeast Texas to Michigan. Reported tornadoes have already shredded roofs off of homes and businesses in Missouri. In Memphis, the city is filling up sandbags as they brace for at least 10 inches of rain. NBC News' Kathy Park reports from the storm zone in Memphis, Tennessee. In February, a vile rumor that Ole Miss freshman Mary Kate Cornett slept with her boyfriend's dad spread online. Cornett says she was then flooded with thousands of hateful calls and texts. In an exclusive interview with NBC News' Tom Llamas, Cornett said the rumor "practically ruined" her life. Artist Amy Sherald's first major museum survey is set to open at the Whitney Museum of American Art next week. The groundbreaking exhibit features nearly 50 paintings of contemporary Black American life. NBC News' Antonia Hylton got an early look at her work.

From cars to coffee beans, across the country people and businesses are rushing to make major purchases they were considering or stocking up on staples, trying to lock in prices before tariffs have an effect. NBC News' Erin McLaughlin reports on the rush to buy now or risk paying more later. The South and Midwest brace for more historic rains and severe flooding in a deadly multiday storm system. NBC News' Christine Romans reports. A federal judge ordered the return of a man that the Trump administration said was deported in ‘administrative error' to El Salvador. An immigration judge had ordered his removal from the U.S. in 2019 but granted "withholding of removal to El Salvador." NBC News' Stephanie Gosk reports. Paul and Christy Akeo are back home in Michigan after being detained in a notorious prison in Mexico for a month over a dispute with a timeshare company. After intervention from U.S. officials, the couple and the company reached an agreement and the fraud charges against them were dropped. NBC News' Maggie Vespa spoke to the Akeos who said at times, they feared they might die in prison.
