In Grand Blanc, Michigan, investigators are searching for a motive behind an attack at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Officials say four people were killed and eight were injured after a suspect opened fire and set the church ablaze. NBC News' Maggie Vespa reports from the scene. Amid a wave of violent attacks across the country, investigators say a gunman opened fire at a waterfront bar in North Carolina popular with tourists, killing three people. Prosecutors say they believe the suspect, Nigel Max Edge, originally planned to carry out his attack a night earlier. NBC News' Aaron Gilchrist reports. There appears to be little progress to avoid a partial federal government shutdown after a high-stakes meeting at the White House.
