Mobster Joe Keeley has vowed to do away with the witnesses to a murder he committed. Desperate to bag the fugitive killer before he can get to the witnesses, Captain Matt Holbrook assigns volunteer Johnny Russo to masquerade in prison as a convict, in order to learn the location of Keeley's hideout.
