But their search soon coincides with Mike's investigation into a spate of hotel room burglaries. Meanwhile, the Inland Revenue return to Aidensfield to, once again, hound Greengrass. He is more concerned with organising a lurcher competition, only to create further problems for himself when Ventress and Blaketon take an interest in his shady new business partner, whilst Craddock requires the help of a solicitor when his wife files for a divorce.

Mike and Jackie clash when a young barmaid is raped and Jackie gets the prime suspect off the hook by casting doubt on Sgt Nokes integrity. Meanwhile, Greengrass and David purchase "Lightning", a racing sheep! Elsewhere, Andy shows his true colours when he is spotted with another women.
