Detective Inspector Marita Kaila is called to the scene during a meeting with her father Jakob: A tall building has collapsed and numerous people have died or are trapped inside. Rescue workers try to reach them, but the building is still dangerously unstable - every decision could cost lives. Marita's team begins an investigation at the construction company Paanio Group and talks to the father and son Paanios, who run the family business together. They are quickly declared guilty of the disaster, but their rage turns to horror when it is revealed that the owner's daughter, Linnea Paanio, is also among those buried alive.

After finding the last victims, the rescue operation ends. But surprisingly, concrete worker Hasan Dahir is found alive. Marita soon realizes that he and other eyewitnesses are hiding information. The team learns that according to the work schedule, Dahir should not have been on the construction site at all on the day of the accident. The investigation also requires searching for physical evidence in the rubble. At the same time, the Paaniots struggle with the grief caused by Linnea's death and the crisis in the company. Mistakes made in the management and implementation of the construction work come to light, and strange activities at the construction site shortly before the accident raise questions. In addition, her father's visit opens old wounds in Marita's life.
