The police are searching for a suspect in the first murder investigation in thirty years to hit the small town of Oakley, Kansas. Kelly is working in a bar the next town over when the suspect comes in for a drink. With the police on their way, she needs to keep the suspect, and the other customers, from believing they are anything but safe.

Rodney is murdered one night when he goes out to work a job unloading a truck. Some time earlier, Rodney makes what could have been an insignificant choice, he goes out to get a tattoo.
