Life coach Iyanla Vanzant travels to New York, where a father's marriage and his relationship with his children are in serious jeopardy. Four years ago, husband and father Robert stopped drinking after years of doing so to excess. Unfortunately, his history of anger and lashing out at his family continues, causing more and more distance, resentfulness and hurt in his family. Iyanla works with Robert and his wife, Donna, to remember the friendship they once shared. In an emotional moment, the family comes to grips with the damage caused by Robert and Donna's inability to protect daughters Lauren and Frankie during the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Iyanla heads to rural Minnesota to help a former nurse whose family refuses to forgive her after her headline-making mistake threatens to ruin the family's reputation. Head nurse Tess was found guilty of stealing her patients' pain medications. However, Iyanla soon discovers that each member of this family needs to take a good look in the mirror. Tess' mother and sisters all have their own stories of shame. Iyanla works with the women to focus on healing themselves before pointing their fingers at each other.
