A year after a teenage boy, Jason Shields, dies in a freak accident after discovering he was adopted, Melinda must help him find his birth mother before he can crossover.

When Jim starts behaving uncharacteristically, Melinda learns Jim is being haunted by the ghost of an ex-con, Julian Borgia, who has been attached to Jim ever since Jim was unable to save Julian's life in route to the hospital.
