Yashiro, a freelance hero known as the "Grim Reaper," rescues a high school girl aspiring to be a hero, Jogamine, from some street thugs. Later, while drinking at his usual bar, Jogamine and her classmate, Indou, come to Yashiro.
After listening to Jogamine's story, she pleads with him to rescue her friend who has been kidnapped by the Demon King, Lord Amber Thorns.

While Yashiro is enjoying a card game at BAR Goonies, Jogamine, Indou, and Sarah barge in. They want Yashiro to be their "master" and mentor, as they are on the verge of failing at the academy. Not wanting to get involved in any trouble, Yashiro sends the three away, but Indou, unwilling to give up, lies in wait for Yashiro. Just then, Lord "The Wedge of Two Hands," a minion of the Great Demon King who has been targeting Yashiro, attacks...
