One of Jessica's children storybook characters is being adapted into a cartoon character and she arrives at the television studio to see how things are going. She soon gets pulled into a murder investigation when one of the studio backers is murdered and the puppet based on her character is used as the murder weapon.

Jessica has to solve two murders to clear the name of her old friend Deputy Andy, who becomes a suspect when a murder weapon is found in his car.
