As Oliver prepares his land to plant his tomatoes, he's getting conflicting advice from his friends on which weather report to follow: a little old lady who reports from a small dollhouse, or from a singing weatherman on a competing television station. As a result, he decides to ignore both and then tries to keep his plants alive through the coldest night of the year.

Oliver misunderstands when the Hooterville bigwigs ask him to be a judge. He thinks he's being appointed an appellate judge but they just want him to judge apples at the county fair. The Douglases travel to New York so Oliver can get some judging advice while Lisa shops for a robe and wig for His Honor.
