Ambitious Bristol-based lawyer Claudia travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim made by local man Cudjoe East against wealthy white aristocrat Oliver Connaught. The case takes an unsettling turn when Claudia discovers that the disputed estate is the very place that has haunted her nightmares - the Connaught family's former plantation.

Claudia is rescued by Cudjoe after Oliver becomes unexpectedly violent at Hope Hill, but she struggles to believe him when he explains his sister Charlotte has possessed Oliver.
