The 30th anniversary season of This Old House opens with thed crew beginning an addition to a 1915 Dutch Colonial Revival that includes a new kitchen, home office and family room.  The architect presents his plan, while Tom Silva and Norm Abram arrive to begin the demolition.

The homeowners decide to stay in the house during construction; Richard Trethewey gets to work in the basement with a reciprocationg saw and a sledgehammer; Tommy extends the old windowsills with wood and epxoy; a temporary kitchen; Kevin O'Connor gets bad news from the electrician; the concrete truck arrives.
