Horror novelist Stefan Van Croven has been pierced through the chest with a wooden stake. Kogoro is convinced that the answer is right under his nose, but he doesn't know that Conan's figured out the trick.

After Kogoro breaks his leg, Conan stops by to visit and senses all is not right with Mori's hospital roommates. His suspicions are justified when a high stakes game of kidnapping and murder begins.
