This special is not a new or expanded story. Instead, it is a re-edited version of two previously aired episodes #983 and #984 originally broadcast in 2020, titled "Kid vs. Komei" two-parter.

In the 2024 special, those episodes were combined into a single 1-hour special, with some brief new content added, primarily to help promote the 2024 theatrical movie, Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram (名探偵コナン 100万ドルの五稜星).
