Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell host the first heat of this year's competition from Battersea Art Centre, where a new crop of artists looks to impress the judges with a portrait of Richard Curtis, Emma Freud or Fleur East.

Nine more artists are challenged with creating portraits of one of celebrity sitters Rory Stewart, Ainsley Harriott and Rob Delaney.
