Mike Sloan tries to reconcile with his estranged wife Ruth, but she refuses his advances. He tells Ruth that he is afraid of being implicated in the suspicious death of writer Nadolski. Judy Owen begins investigating the sudden death of her co-writer, Nadolski, she assumes Mike Sloan Sr. has something to do with his death. Linda Metcalf begins writing for the newspaper to compete with Judy Owen, whom she envies. Linda starts dating the newspaper editor, Phil Havel; her brother Jeff doesn't like the fact that Linda is dating Phil.
