The work, which begins in 1856, a little more than 30 years after the independence of Brazil, is a period plot that takes place in a Brazil that is still searching for its identity and follows important moments in the life of Emperor Dom Pedro II, of Empress Teresa Cristina, by Luísa, the Countess of Barral, as well as Pilar and Jorge/Samuel, over the years.
