London's Chelsea neighbourhood is a beautiful borough for beautiful people, but it has a dark underside of deception, violence, greed-and murder. Bodies have a way of showing up, and things are rarely what they seem. DI Max Arnold and his partner, DS Priya Shamsie, must root out the truth and bring those responsible to justice, no matter their wealth or status.
At first glance, Oliver Cowie — devoted family man, respected educator, all-round good guy — seems an unlikely murder victim, until he's found in a pool of blood, bludgeoned to death in his study. But scratch the surface and it turns out there's no shortage of suspects, ranging from his own wife to feuding colleagues, a vengeful ex-pupil, disgruntled parents, and a rather too-familiar family cleaner.
A well-liked security guard is found stabbed to death, leaving behind his terminally ill wife. Could this pillar of the community have been killed in a drug deal gone wrong, as the evidence initially suggests? Max and Priya discover that the victim had an unsavoury past filled with violence, racism, and hooliganism, and that his death is the latest tragedy in a decades-old cycle of violence.
Robyn Romano, social media sensation and wife of restaurateur Julia Romano, is reported missing. As the race to find Robyn alive pivots to a murder investigation, Max gets a taste of the combustible Romano clan, whose long-standing tensions and disagreements over the running of their eponymous Chelsea eatery may reveal how Robyn met her fate.
Stonemason Andrew Knightley is pushed under a London Underground train during the morning rush hour. DI Max Arnold and his partner, DS Priya Shamsie, together build a picture of a lonely, devout, and troubled man who believed a spirit was leaving him vengeful Biblical messages. But the killer is flesh and blood, and a more earthly explanation may be found in the truth of Knightley's life.
The third season of The Chelsea Detective sees DI Max Arnold and DS Layla Walsh delving once more into the murky crimes of glamorous Chelsea. The team will investigate the tragic death of a 2000s popstar, the discovery of an ex-soldier's body in an allotment, the brutal murder of an antiques dealer, and the mysterious case of a climate scientist found dead in a stolen car. If that wasn't enough to contend with, things at home aren't much simpler for the investigating duo either. Max tries a new approach in his personal life as he embarks on couples therapy with his estranged wife, Astrid. Meanwhile, Layla is still getting used to living in London, while her partner, Jon, is in Exeter. They might be enjoying their independent lives right now but will discover that navigating a long-distance relationship can be trickier than they first thought.
Season Two brings new cases for Detective Inspector Max Arnold and the team to investigate. Max is joined by sharp and quick-witted Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh from Exeter police. Layla quickly gets used to Max's unique style and will occasionally roll her eyes at the worst excesses of Chelsea.
