Amy is home again for the holidays, so Rachel is determined to engineer an absolutely classic Jessop Family Christmas: Stockings, presents, church, turkey, King's speech, charades. Then everyone sings Hey Mr Christmas by Showaddywaddy and watches Shrek. Should be great, so long as everyone sticks PRECISELY to the schedule.
It's never that easy.
When Robin's attempt to stop Cherry's wedding in Scotland fails, the Jessop family holiday is in tatters. Until a run-in with the local police turns things around.
Sue's new Italian boyfriend, Alf, invites the Jessops to dinner at his restaurant while Robin asks Paul to go undercover to learn about Cherry's new boyfriend.
The Jessops travel to Cardigan to confront Ray, Paul's old archery teammate and Rachel's ex-boyfriend, about cheating Paul out of a place in the 2008 Olympic team.
Rachel tries to ‘fix' a painting of the family she commissioned after the artist made her look older, while Cherry launches her salsa class and Sue buys a pool.
Unwilling to give up his dream of making a living from his former Olympic Archery skills, Paul sets up a YouTube channel and sets about making fitness videos with Sam.
Meanwhile Rachel decides it's time for Amy to get a real job. As she helps her to prepare for an upcoming interview, Rachel realises the interview will be with one of her old classmates.
But when Rachel's attempts to butter up her school friend go awry, it's down to Paul to salvage some family dignity at the local school sports day, where he has offered to give out the prizes (and promote his new YouTube channel). However his new fitness drive has pushed his body to the limit...
When Rachel receives a family pass to Jungle World adventure park as a birthday present from Paul, to be redeemed anytime in the next six months, the family start excitedly planning their big day out.
However, as work and home pressures heighten over the course of the year, the Jessops only remember to use Rachel's voucher on the final day that it's valid. Racing against the clock to get to the park before it closes, with an uncooperative dog that Sue is looking after for a neighbour in tow, will the Jessops snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and give Rachel the birthday day out she so badly needs?
2020 has been an absolute nightmare for the Jessop family. To boost family morale, they decide they are going to have a summer holiday after all, even if it is in Margate in October.
The third series will continue to follow the chaotic Jessops' family as they navigate new jobs, love, loss and family gatherings. Mum Rachel is starting her new life as a therapist. Paul, now a police constable, continues his quest to gain the respect of his peers - and his kids. Uncle Robin and wife Cherry are busy with a new arrival, baby Atlas, while Amy is still figuring out life as a 20-something. Grandmother Sue has moved back in and Sam is, of course, on hand, capturing all the calamity on camera from bungee jumps to riverside baptisms.
