Paladin comes to the aid of a mission Indian, Joseph Whitehorse, who the locals believe has diseased cattle. But the gunfighter soon switches sides and sells his services to the locals to drive Joseph off of his land.

When a young woman in his stagecoach gets out in the middle of the desert, Paladin decides to stay with her and discovers that she's a mail order bride who has never met her would-be husband face-to-face.
