Animal collection officer Joe White faces a high-risk rescue when a kitten is spotted on a motorway hard shoulder, with cars roaring past just metres away from the frightened feline. Inspector Sam Durrant visits an owner who has been reported for keeping his animals - and himself - in unhygienic conditions, and Jo revisits young Stanley to see how his crushed paw is healing.
Animal welfare officer Matt Brown is sent to pick up two cats trapped in a squalid property that has been abandoned by squatters, while in Birmingham, RSPCA inspector Herchy Boal investigates a report about a neglected cat with a broken leg. Jo returns to Putney Animal Hospital, where she assists vet Ellie Cavale with a kitten castration.

Jo follows teams who work to save the nation's cats from harm, including 20 firefighters who try to help a kitten stuck in a storm drain. She also visits RSPCA Harmsworth in north London, where she meets a cat who survived falling more than four storeys. In Liverpool, RSPCA officer Paul gets an emergency call about a cat tied to a fence.
