During 1942, in occupied France, U-612 is now ready for its maiden voyage, preparing to head into the increasingly brutal warfare with its young crewmen and the new captain, Klaus Hoffmann.
With news of Gluck's kidnapping reaching La Rochelle, Forster is on the warpath and everyone is in the firing line, including Simone.
Details of what happened to the U-612 reach the shore and Forster has the task of breaking the news to Simone.
