S1 E3 Team Favourites
本集简介

Mary is off to Birmingham, home of the world-famous cricket ground at Edgbaston, where she immerses herself in the world of cricket. Mary spent many weekends and evenings watching her husband and boys play the sport at their local village club. While she enjoyed watching the game, the real fun came with the cricket teas. Helping prepare them and sharing with others was her highlight, and now Mary can't wait to meet some of the England team and prepare lunch for them ahead of their test match against India.

Mary heads to the beating heart of the stadium - its kitchens - to meet head chef Scott, who oversees all the food cooked there for both the teams and the spectators and staff, which can mean over 2000 covers on a match day. Scott's team make everything fresh and from scratch, earning high praise from those that visit from all over the world. He also works closely with the various teams' nutritionists to ensure the players get food fit for professional athletes.

Ahead of the test match, the England team are already at the stadium to practise, and Mary has the pleasure of meeting two of their top players, Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope. The boys convince her to join them for a bat on the pitch before lunch. No doubt Mary will bowl them over with her delicious hot smoked salmon, rice and asparagus salad lunch, but how will she do on the crease under the watchful eyes of Jonny and Ollie?

Whilst in Birmingham, Mary is keen to meet the future of the sport and heads to a local primary school where cricket is top of the sporting agenda. Many of the children have been inspired to take up cricket after practising during PE lessons, with two of them already making it to county level. After seeing the children practise, Mary asks a few of the players to help her make a delicious cricket snack of fruit kebabs with lemon curd and mint yoghurt before inviting the rest of the class to taste-test them. Will they get the children's seal of approval?

Back in her own kitchen, Mary makes her delicious jumbo lentil rolls, perfect to enjoy after a slow Sunday watching the cricket, her simple chip chip cassoulet, which always goes down well with both young and old, and her rich ultimate brownies, a mouthwatering treat that's hard to resist.

Memories

Mary travels to the beautiful city of Bristol. Her connection to the city is extensive: it was here that she had her first job and where her son William studied at university, and it's currently home to her granddaughter Grace.

The largest city in the south west of England, Bristol is a vibrant, multicultural town with a strong community spirit. From the buzzing, recently developed harbor front to the flourishing independent restaurants, Mary is ready to rediscover the city she knew of old.

First stop is a sunrise hot air balloon display. Mary used to watch them float silently above the city, but now she prepares to see then up close. Next, a Michelin-starred restaurant embracing the street art so synonymous with Bristol. Mary is intrigued by the 20-course tasting menu, but having been inspired by the creativity of Bristol and its favorite son Banksy, will she try her hand at spray painting?

New experiences abound, but there's one place special from Mary's past she always visits when in Bristol - her beloved late son William's memorial plaque, a tribute from his university tutor commemorating his life and time spent studying in the city.

Mary will be cooking up her own mouthwatering recipes. Her Tuscan chicken and her pear and blueberry galette are firm family favorites. There's also shakshuka, perfect for sharing and served with deliciously simple garlic parsley flatbreads, cooked overlooking the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. Pkus a dish bursting with flavor: her prawn and courgette stir-fry.

Coastal Delights

Mary explores the historic Jurassic Coast, famous for fossils, beautiful coastal towns and delicious seafood. Mary can't wait to share the delights on offer and meet the people passionate about preserving and showcasing them.

Mary has always been a fan of the beautiful British coast. As well as visiting this very stretch of shoreline as a girl guide camping out on the Jurassic cliffs, she has special memories of childhood holidays and trips with her own children at the seaside. So many of Mary's favourite ingredients come from the sea, and there are always new ones to discover.

She meets 21-year-old scallop diver Sam Shuker. He learnt everything he knows from his fisherman dad, going on his first scallop dive at just 14. Now with his own boat, Sam is proudly carrying on the family legacy, and Mary joins him at sea to learn all about it. Back on the beach with his catch, Mary cooks the delicious scallops with garlic, king oyster mushrooms and tarragon.

Mary also gets the chance to talk to the local fishermen harvesting sugar kelp seaweed along the shore. Packed with nutrients and incredible for the environment, Mary learns how this wonderful ingredient is grown commercially. She then heads off to sample local chef Nigel Bloxham's innovative new seaweed recipes.

No trip to the Jurassic Coast is complete without a quick bit of fossil hunting, so Mary joins local fossil hunter Nigel to see what they can discover along the ancient shoreline.

Along the way, Mary also has some mouthwatering dishes to share, from the rich and creamy French classic moules mariniere to her fresh nori noodle salad, a vibrant dish packed with Asian flavours. For a hearty meal after a day on the coast, Mary's simple chicken, spinach and tomato lasagne will hit the spot, and her beautiful salted caramel cake is a tasty treat for sharing.
