The slaying Apache Kid runs away as Hondo is taking him in for an Army trial. In hot pursuit, Hondo discovers more atrocities committed by the Kid, and promises Chief Vittoro he will deal with the killer the Apache way.
In an additional gesture to assist the white man and Apache live together in peace, Colonel Crook has given authorization to Hondo to provide the Indians with guns and ammunition for hunting in order to feed their families.
When the Apache chief, Vittoro, agrees to meet and talk peace with Indian scout, Hondo Lane and the Arizona Territory army commander, renegade Indians attack a mine, setting off a full-scale Indian war.
Hondo Lane, former cavalry scout who has lived with the Apaches, is asked by Colonel Crook, Army Commander in the Arizona Territory, to help bring peace between the Indians and the white man.
