Season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars was officially announced on August 19, 2019, via Social Media and VH1's Press Website. The official trailer announced a new twist to this season of All Stars: the Top All Star of the Week will lip sync for her legacy against a Lip Sync Assassin from a previous season; if the All Star wins the lip sync, she'll get the power to eliminate a fellow queen, if the Assassin wins, the eliminated queen will be determined after a majority vote by the rest of the contestants, and the $10,000 tip rolls over to further episodes, until an All Star queen wins a lip sync.

The official cast was announced was on November 9th, 2018, along with the season premiere date of December 14, 2018. For the first time, there were two winners of a single season. The winners of this All Stars season were Monét X Change and Trinity The Tuck.
