Search efforts continue in the Potomac River after an American Airlines plane with 60 passengers and four crew on board collided in midair with an Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. 

At least 28 bodies had been recovered by 8 a.m. ET, D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly told reporters, adding that, "We don't believe there are any survivors."

The plane, American Eagle flight 5342, had taken off from Wichita, Kansas, and was approaching for landing when the collision occurred.

The helicopter was on a training flight with a crew of three, based at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

Reagan National was closed until at least 11 a.m. ET.

Investigators are questioning those who knew the New Orleans attacker, in search of possible accomplices. City officials in New Orleans say a vehicle plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more. A witness said they saw a truck going at a high speed. CBS News' Kati Weis has more. Many in Puerto Rico started 2025 without electricity as the local power company said it could take another day to turn the power back on after a blackout impacted most of the island. The FBI says it found more than 150 pipe bombs in a raid on a Virginia farm. Investigators say Brad Spafford was arrested after a tip that he was stockpiling weapons. It is the largest seizure of its kind.
