Under arrest, Huw's faced with tough evidence: the cufflinks given to him by Jenny found at Ruth's flat, fingerprints on the case at Patrick's house, and the knife that killed Paul from his house. Huw's led away in cuffs as Patrick burns evidence, enjoying watching the Polaroid burn.
While the street has seemingly turned on Huw, Alice and Margot stand by him. They believe him. As Alice goes on the warpath asking questions, she comes face to face with Patrick.
Returning from Ruth's funeral, Huw finds a Polaroid on the table. Patrick was here. It's time. Sending Alice and Margot away for their own safety, Huw vows to confront Patrick on his own.
Huw is adamant that he heard Patrick admit to being the Ripton Stalker, but Patrick bluffs, later boasting to Steve about Huw's drunken antics. Jenny and Martin find Ruth dead, and Patrick charms his way into chatting with Alice and Margot. Huw finds an ally in Paul, who also doesn't buy Patrick's act, and shows him the case files on the flash drive.
Huw's promise to Alice to forget about Patrick and the Ripton Stalker comes under strain as his obsession grows. While pouring over the case, he finds a connection linking Ruth to Patrick in the form of a ballerina statue. Huw is surprised to see his daughter Margot back, and Alice kicks Huw out of the house when she discovers that he has lied to her.
Former detective Huw settles into retirement alongside his wife Alice, but never far from his mind is the case he failed to solve - that of the Ripton Stalker. When new neighbour Patrick moves in and uses the phrase that the stalker used to taunt Huw with in letters, he's determined he's finally got his man.
