It's that void week between Christmas and New Year, but plenty is happening for Charlie and the girls; he's about to become a father, Ruth is set to go to a party with a (probably) gay man, and Caralyn is sent out to get some fancy dress costumes...
Caralyn arrives home with a kitten, but his presence causes a little upset between the flatmates. Even more upset, however, is Charlie; his ex-wife has been gloating about her good fortune and wonderful relationship.
The boiler at Benito's house explodes, and - much to his regret - Charlie offers to put him up. Over in number 23, Ruth and Leigh aren't getting on too well, and Caralyn is distraught at the news of a relationship that she didn't even know about, is ending.
Ruth is particularly unimpressed with the new woman in Charlie's life, whilst Caralyn and Leigh battle a broken toilet.
Charlie is heartbroken when his beloved is taken from him. Meanwhile, Leigh's boyfriend seems to have taken a shine to Ruth, and Caralyn's been spotted out in Hyde Park...
Leigh and Caralyn befriend a pair of men who appear slightly oafish, but own a large yacht. Ruth fails to find a man at all, and Charlie is in a relationship he can't get out of!
Ruth, Caralyn and Leigh meet their new neighbour, Charlie, for the first time; but is Ruth as boring as she seems, and just how well does Charlie know her?
