Dr. Belinda Simpson arrives in the tiny town of Sikeston to take up the post of town physician. Once there, she discovers that many of the town's residents have fallen ill from an unknown ailment. Soon, Belinda begins to worry that she is in over her head, despite reassurances from her best friend, Annie.

After being charged with vandalism, Clark Davis stays in a small town to work off his debt by fixing a farm belonging to two young women, Ellen and Cassie Barlow. Over time, Clark and Ellen fall in love, but will Clark give up his plans of striking it rich out west for the comfort of a family and home?
