Bill resents his new boss, Seth (Ben Savage), a 23-year-old Harvard graduate with a massive chip on his shoulder, at least at first. But his feelings change after Seth strikes up a friendship with Brian, which results in perks and privileges for Bill at work. Meanwhile, Judy is concerned that Seth's superiority complex will rub off on her son.

Judy looks forward to her Mother's Day tradition of having high tea at a fancy restaurant with Helen, Linda and, for the first time, a less-than-enthusiastic Lauren, but Bill's oh-so-manipulative mother (Sally Struthers) threatens to ruin Judy's plans by trying to go as well.
