Allie meets a college guy with an interest in photography; Tom confronts his ex-wife's husband about easing the tension between them regarding Claire. Elsewhere, Bryan applies for a DJ job at a club, but winds up getting hired as a bouncer instead.
Nick gets into a fight with Allie's ex-boyfriend at a party and the former beau turns up dead shortly after, leading the police to suspect Nick of the crime. Later, Tory asks Trip why he was so willing to offer information to the police that made Nick look guilty.
Master Li's son Jing makes waves at Tom's school when he takes a heavy-handed approach to teaching and sets out to take over the school. Meanwhile, Bryan tries to woo a girl who recently dumped her jealous boyfriend; and Trip realizes that Tory only sees him as a friend.
A troublesome new student (Drew Fuller) joins Tom's school and convinces Bryan to participate in a martial-arts scam after he overhears that Bryan has financial problems. Elsewhere, Tom tries to figure out what to get his daughter for her 12th birthday; Trip thinks Tory has a romantic interest in him, but she has eyes for someone else.
Trip is attacked in his father's workshop by three thugs looking for money from the sale of stolen car parts, and the teen is given just three days to come up with the cash. Meanwhile, Tom faces off against his ex-wife in family court over visitation rights; and Allie considers trying out for her school's dance squad.
