1984. Andrei Mazurov, a reliable worker in the Committee of Youth Organizations who had served in Afghanistan and believed in the party's ideals, is sent to a seminar in Italy. In Verona, he meets his true and only love. His Juliet turns out to be a Jewish girl, Leah, who has come with her father to a congress of rabbis. Fate gives them a few fleeting encounters in the most romantic city in the world, and then each must return home — Leah to Israel, Andrei to the USSR.
