Semaga is a master of painting nesting dolls, an "old school" person: he loves wood, manual labor and an order in which a man is the head of the family. His track record includes the smallest matryoshka doll in Russia. But times are changing, Semaga is losing his job, and his wife Violetta is rising up the career ladder. Family relations are strained, the teenage daughter considers her father to be boring, and only the eight-year-old son still maintains a warm relationship with his dad.
After being fired from the matryoshka workshop, Semaga feels like she is finally losing control of her own life. In a desperate attempt to regain the respect of his family, he decides to open a nail salon – together with his friend, the asshole Antokha. Confident that he can handle nails as easily as he can with nesting dolls, Semaga suddenly finds himself in the world of gel coatings and women's conversations. And this new experience is changing him more than he could have imagined.
