Rome, 1943. In the Jewish Ghetto, the Calò family experiences Nazi oppression firsthand. Seeking help for her father, Silvia Calò finds herself at the Fatebenefratelli Hospital, where Dr. Prestifilippo and Professor Prati devise a bold plan to save the community.

The Nazis seal off the ghetto and begin the deportation. Pietro convinces Silvia to hide in the hospital, where the refugees must feign K-disease infection for an upcoming inspection. Meanwhile, the Calòs receive their evacuation ticket, and Ester attempts a desperate act to save Marcolino.
