May 1939: Mrs Clegg gets Compo smartened up so that he can apply for a job at the Co-op, but Scrimshaw is determined not to take him on.
Foggy's rifle still hasn't arrived and he is not prepared to fight a war with a wooden one. He suggests a weekend camping trip for the boys.
The Co-op staff suspect their manager of being a secret snuff taker and set about finding his hiding place.
May 1939: Foggy prepares himself mentally and physically for the outbreak of war. Compo falls foul of the local bully.
Seymour tries to attract Deborah Norbury but Mrs Norbury proves to be quite an obstacle. He devises a scheme to get him into the Norbury kitchen and leaves Clegg in charge.
May 1939: the possibility of war seems remote as Clegg and Sherbet wonder if they'll ever get the hang of girls.Little Wally does his best to reach Nora's expectations by doing stretching exercises and is helped by an ingenious plan from Compo.
