Political intrigue surrounding a Paris Capuchin monastery describes only one aspect of "Ainsi soient-ils". It's not overly melodramatic, and, while respecting the core humanitarianism of Christianity, it pulls no punches lambasting church hierarchy. The series follows the lives of five seminarians and the power struggle between the seminary head and his superiors in Rome, as well as the dissonance of a medieval religious institution in a modern, secular society.
