With so many village fetes cancelled last year and just a few planned across the country this year, the Nicholsons are staging a socially distanced summer fete for their staff and families. Peter Wright from The Yorkshire Vet and JB Gill be live at the farm and the programme will follow farmer Ruth from Cannon Hall Farm as she goes to 'heavy horse boot camp' in preparation for this year's Great Yorkshire Show.
Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen joins the farm restaurant's head chef Tim Bilton in the country kitchen to make a tasty summer dish with ingredients she has foraged. The Nicholson brothers test out some of the attractions as they prepare to host a village fete for the farmworkers and their families the following day, while JB Gill visits the family firm whose world-famous elderflower cordial began life on their kitchen table and is still made to the original recipe.
Today, Reuben Owen from Our Yorkshire Farm helps one of the farmers at Cannon Hall Farm refurbish some old agricultural equipment, and Nicholson brothers go head to head to see who can make the best barrel as an expert cooper joins the team to showcase his craft.
Today, brothers Rob and Dave leave the family farm to take a road trip to Perth to meet a new billy goat, and Julian Norton meets an Italian breed of sheep dog doing its bit to protect hundreds of free-range hens against predators in the foothills of the Pennines.
Amanda Owen from Our Yorkshire Farm seeks out the best summer cooking ingredients freshly foraged from the countryside, while JB Gill takes a trip to Dorset to find out more about a vodka that is made from cow's milk.
They're joined by local farming heroes Rob and Dave Nicholson, and together the team check in on our favourite animals and attempt to bring the great British countryside into our living rooms. We'll be campaigning to get the whole nation to eat fresh local produce and ween ourselves off expensive imports, and getting the country to take part in challenges that will make us fall in love with our local natural wonders, from star-gazing to saving our beautiful rivers. We're joined by some of the team from Channel 5's The Yorkshire Vet, while JB Gill is out and about meeting local heroes across the UK, including roof thatchers in Norfolk, cheese-makers in Tottenham and sustainable crisp-makers in Herefordshire. Dr Amir Khan is live in the studio, myth busting hay fever remedies, and telling us why we should all be eating more watercress and how to turn our gardens into butterfly paradises. We'll be tasting some delicious food and drink from around the UK, and Cannon Hall Farm chef Tim Bilton cooks up a storm with some incredible recipes to make this summer. We've also got knife-making, bird-watching, dancing, kayaking, sheep-shearing, lambing, hay-baling and bee-keeping, and as many live thrills and spills as you could shake a shepherd's crook at! So get ready to spend the week at Cannon Hall Farm.
