Susannah goes to the secure psychiatric hospital where her ex-husband Danny is being detained, but is shocked to discover that he's no longer there. Suspecting a cover-up by Dr Alistair Underwood, she escapes to a hotel to try and find a key witness.
Susannah tracks down her ex-client, officer Louisa, who though initially hostile eventually opens up about a witness who saw her friend being killed by a man matching Jon's description. Louisa admits that she was threatened into silence and Susannah realises they might both be in imminent danger. Louisa sends Susannah a photo of the witness who she needs to find. As Susannah hurries away, it's clear that she too could now be a target.
Susannah is shocked when DS Richard Groves, her former lover, doesn't seem to take her concerns about Jon's murderous discourses seriously, and soon realises that he's hiding something. She locks horns with Richard and his wife Natasha and manages to get a lead - the name of a police officer who reported a girl saying her friend was murdered.
