Police officers are accused of brutalizing suspects. Detective McClain is called upon to invetigate in a nearby city's renegade police department, run by Hawkins, a brutal sergeant. Accompanied by his partner, Detective Gates, McClain immediately notices some peculiar irregularities in the methods used by the neighboring White Sands Police Department when the city asks him to check out one of a number of complaints received from victims. 

McClain (James Arness) turns to a special breed of informant to nail a dope dealer who beat the rap in the murder of a narcotics officer.

On the first day of his early retirement, Jim McClain's business partner is murdered. Not satisfied with the murder investigation, McClain is inspired to return to policing. But the police are none too anxious to welcome him back.
