Now that Steffi is out of the picture, Lex is a fugitive. Because of her actions, the witness protection program has withdrawn its support for the family. As a result, Lex has to go on the run. He'd love to take Eva with him, but she has other plans. Since Peter has returned to her life, pieces of her memory have fallen into place.
On Eva's advice, Steffi gets back in touch with someone from her past to settle an old feud. Meanwhile, Lex is completely smitten with Eva, who sees her dream of starting a family of her own coming within reach. Peter tries to forget Eva just as she has apparently forgotten him and move on with Machteld.
Eva visits Lex at work. She knows how to wrap him around her finger by offering him everything he feels is missing in his relationship with Steffi. For the first time in ages, he's feeling a little happy again. Just as a bright future begins to take shape for Lex, Lilly happens to hear about the problems at the garage.
Eva advises Steffi to visit her family incognito, while at the same time tipping off someone about her return behind her back. Steffi enjoys visiting her family and quickly forgets the risk she's taking with the visit until an old acquaintance appears right in front of her. From that moment on, Steffi is constantly on her guard and paranoid.
After his failed attempt to save his marriage, Lex's job at the garage is his only source of stability. While he was away, the garage owner, Sal, was assaulted because of the outcome of the last car race. Lex feels incredibly guilty and responsible, especially since the old man is like a father to him.
Lex has some money left over from his participation in the illegal race and decides to surprise his wife. They're going out for a night on the town together and staying at a hotel without the kids. Both have high hopes for the getaway, since their relationship has seen better days.
Eva is gradually gaining a foothold with her new neighbors. She becomes close friends with Steffi. Steffi, who doesn't feel at home at all in the Zonnewijk and finds her job at the tanning salon boring, sees Eva as the best thing that's happened to her in years.
Eva tells her new neighbors that she'd be willing to babysit their children. But Lex has his doubts about Eva. Since she remembers so little, they don't know much about her either. He Googled Eva and came across the Ginkelduin tragedy. According to Steffi, Eva was a victim there.
Eva has awakened from her coma and appears to have lost a large part of her memory. She remembers nothing about Ginkelduin and nothing about Steef and Rebecca. Once she's back at the house in de Zonnewijk, she can't even remember her relationship with Peter.
Everything still looks the same in "De Zonnewijk," but the lives of its residents have been turned upside down.
